Chapter 6: Aosta to Fiorenzuola, 284km
Sunday 18 May to Thursday 29 May

Thy bountiful care what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;
It streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,
And sweetly distils in the dew and the rain

Robert Grant

This stage took me away from the foothills of the Alps and across the wide plain of the River Po, often in torrential rain or sultry heat. The walking was often difficult and sometimes dull but every overnight stop brought interest and new experiences. The day might bring anger and frustration but a glass of Prosecco and a good meal could transform the experience.
