First week

I was in the taxi from Rome airport when I realised I had forgotten my walking boots!

Not a good start but I managed to find another pair and so far I have only one blister.

Cath and I spent the weekend in Rome then I set off South. It seems an age already although I have only been walking for 5 days. I stayed the first night at Palazzola, which is probably my favourite place in the world.

The weather has been fantastic and I have stayed in some lovely medieval towns, Veroli was the most beautiful.

There have been the usual frustrations with walking along busy roads, aggressive dogs and the sad damage being done to the countryside by plastic litter. But there are many positives; the kindness of the people, wonderful views and good food and wine.

There is still snow on the mountains and the evenings are cold, but it's bella!

I hope you didn't forget the sticking plasters as well. Best wishes.

One blister is a blister too many - hope you're healing. The first week must feel long and full until you get into your rhythm and stride. I will look up Palazzola. Looking forward to the next post.
